22 important questions to ask a potential supplier when considering the purchase of solar street lighting.
- Is the light designed to certified local solar irradiation design data for different latitudes? (i.e. is it guaranteed to run dusk to dawn in Southern Victoria for example with the lamp provided or specified)?.
- Is the light engineered to all relevant Australian standards including wind loading, and verified by a reputable independent engineer?
- Does the supplier offer both stand alone and grid tied solar street lighting?
- Does the supplier have a track record in supplying grid tied solar public lighting into residential land developments around Australia?
- Are poles available for cyclonic areas?
- Does the supplier provide jetty & pier mount options?
- Are all the components hot dip galvanized?
- Does the supplier offer a project lighting design service free of charge?
- Are quality brand solar panels used, or cheap dubious brand panels?
- Is the supplier offering a quality luminaire or a cheap uncertified knock off or untested conversion or self built unit?
- Does the supplier offer IES files for the luminaires supplied certified by a recognised lighting laboratory?
- Is a quality single battery offered, or multiple smaller cheap batteries?
- Is the battery/regulator programmable for multiple split running times?
- Is the battery/regulator Australian made?
- Is the battery regulator/controller Maximum Power Point Tracking?
- Are in-house & registered key security stainless steel fittings used?
- Does the supplier offer state of the art USA & Canadian made maintenance free LED luminaires or cheap uncertified Asian imports?
- Does the supplier offer a maintenance schedule and contract (where applicable)?
- Does the supplier have a track record in the industry stretching back more than twenty years?
- Does the supplier currently supply to big industry such as Orica Mining, BHP, and BlueScope Steel etc?
- Does the supplier currently supply to councils, shires, and government bodies all over Australia and the world?
- Does the supplier export to China!
